City Farm

City Farm Event

The city farm is on its way! See our dedicated page for the latest news and events here

We’re busily developing plans for a new City Farm which we hope will be a hub for food production and sustainable living in the heart of Sydney. The City Farm could feature demonstration gardens, space for community art projects and food outlets selling produce complimented by flourishing fruit and vegetables in an innovative farm space.

How it all began

We were approached by the not-for-profit organisation Sydney City Farm, who are dedicated to establishing an urban farm in the centre of Sydney. So we undertook a feasibility study and organised three public consultation workshops to hear your feedback. In late 2011, the feasibility study was unanimously endorsed by council.

City Farm Advisory Group

The City Farm Advisory Group has been formed. The group is meeting monthly to provide input and direction to the development of the City Farm business plan, design master plan and community consultation. The four community representatives will work with two members from both the City of Sydney and the Powerhouse Museum to ensure the project is the best outcome for our community.

What’s next?

Currently we’re researching the best options for farms in two sites – Sydney Park in St Peters, and the disused Powerhouse Museum car park in Ultimo. We’ve got a City Farm project manager to prepare a business plan and master plan which will be reported back to the Council for approval. If you’d like to get in contact with the project manager, please email us and if you’d like to share your ideas for what you’d like to see at our first City Farm, please tell us at Sydney Your Say.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for more updates or sign up to Green Village News to be the first to find out about our first City Farm.
