Get your hands dirty at City Farm

Summer Garden

Sydney is joining the global ranks of switched-on cities and wrangling local experts to provide residents with a full-scale working farm in the inner city.

The farm itself will take some time to set-up, but your first taste comes next month with a Summer Garden in Sydney Park from 19 January to 24 March.

Thanks to some help from our farmer friends in the Sydney basin area, it’s going to be full of things you wouldn’t normally find in your backyard or local community garden – think bees, an orchard, and a market garden.

The garden will be full of crops and produce so why not pop past to see how this corner of Sydney Park has been transformed before a final harvest event in March – watch this space for more information.

There will also be fun weekend programs and workshops each weekend, including sheep-dog trials, meet a farmer and talks on how to find quality, fresh food. Book yourself in here from early January.

Plus, if you’re a bit of a green thumb or you want a closer look at how to maintain some of the unique produce, why not become a volunteer? There is a roster of official ‘City Farmers’ being created now to contribute some weeding and watering man-power. Simply shoot your name over to cityfarm@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au to get your name on the list.
