Why should homeowners have all the fun when it comes to making our homes more sustainable? Putting up solar panels, installing rainwater tanks or insulation, changing over single-flush loos and double-glazing windows are pretty much out of the question. So what can renters do to lessen the impact?
As it turns out… stacks! Sure there are the lifestyle changes like recycling, composting, natural cleaning and shorter showers, but what else is there? Even while renting, we’ve got more control over our living environment than we might think. Whether we’re changing our light bulbs to LEDs, purchasing GreenPower, painting with low-VOC paints, or growing food on our balcony, window sills or courtyard, every action makes our abodes that little bit more sustainable.
To learn more tips and tricks to green your home then sign up to the Green Renters challenge – it’s another great initiative that we’ve proudly supported through our environmental grants. The Challenge is on at the Brown Street Community Hall, Newtown on Tuesday 10 July, from 6.30-8.30pm.
