Taylor Square’s Cycle-in Cinema, screening for three nights from 24 February, is a whole new take on drive-in movies. Punters arrive on two wheels, not four. Those who aren’t tired from the journey can plug their bike into a generator stand and take turns riding to power the projector (just ring your bell when you need a break).
In return for their efforts, the audience will be treated to a specially curated film program including cult short films. And the best bits? All the electricity for the screenings comes from pedal power, plus, it’s free!
Cycle-in Cinema is all part of We Make This City, the City of Sydney’s latest Taylor Square Art program. Curated by the UNSW College of Fine Arts (COFA), it’s an open-air gallery of sorts that’s designed to entertain and educate. Focusing on climate change, the four works of art featured until May 2012 aim to combat the fear and inertia behind it, with a message that change is possible if we all work together.
The Cycle-in Cinema runs from 24–26 February 2012 from 7.30pm, Taylor Square, Darlinghurst.
