Morning coffee queues seem to be stretching further and further down the street. It’s about time we think about what we can do to make our daily coffees more sustainable. Cafes offering a discount when customers use a reusable cup are a huge part of that.
Justin Bonsey from the group Responsible Runners is passionate about spreading awareness of sustainability and recycling in cafes.
“There are one billion takeaway cups and lids wasted in Australia every year – which are recyclable only in certain conditions and composted in even more limited conditions – so the only answer is to encourage a culture of re-use,” he says.
To downsize the number of coffee cups ending up in landfill, some Sydney cafes are selling coffee at a discount if you bring along a reusable takeaway cup.
In partnership with Broadsheet Sydney, we completed some delicious research to find a list of local cafes who offer a resusable cup discount. We included inner city cafes only, but welcome your suggestions for other parts of Sydney (and a big thanks to those who have already offered their tips).
